Still Here!

Yes we are still here!

Spreading the word at Cameron Park, La Crosse.

For the past three weeks the DRBC has been up to our proverbial necks with Bike to Work Week planning, preparation and events. All the effort, volunteer hours and community support were well worth it. This year we saw a 95% increase in the number of miles logged on the DRBC BTWW website. This year participants logged 5,340 miles up from 2,739. What that means is that there were a lot more wheels on the streets this year and that fits right in with our mission of “getting more people on bikes more often…” Read more

May is Bike Month!

BTWW Banner

Bike to Work Week Banner

The first Bike to Work Day was organized by the League in 1956 and has expanded into Bike to Work Week and National Bike Month.  The Driftless Region Bicycle Coalition (DRBC) continues this tradition by hosting Bike to Work Week events in the Driftless Region. The DRBC will be celebrating Bike to Work week this year from May 15-21.

At the request of the Driftless Region Bicycle Coalition the Governor of Wisconsin and the Mayor of La Crosse have both issues proclamations declaring May Bike month. The County of La Crosse and the City of Onalaska are expected to be issuing similar proclamation in the coming week or so. This show of support by our governmental leaders at multiple levels is encouraging and marks the start of the most ambitious Bike to Work Week in our areas history. Read more

Join the Cause Party a Success

The bikes start showing up outside Pearl Street Brewery.

Wow! At times there was very little room to even move around at the Driftless Region Bicycle Coalition’s “Join the Cause” party this past Sunday (March 20). With almost a hundred people signing in, the Pearl Street Brewery in La Crosse was the spot to be for people interested in bicycle advocacy. The place was filled with familiar and new faces and there was even a pickup Foosball tournament in the back of the room.

The event was attended by bicyclists from around the region, not just La Crosse. I had the opportunity to personally talk with individuals from Vernon County, Eau Claire, Onalaska and even from Minnesota. This shows that there is a strong desire to have a organization like the DRBC representing the needs bicyclists throughout the Driftless Region. As we grow DRBC will continue to reach out and serve cyclists across the area. The wide range of ages and the diversity of the crowd was very exciting. Read more
