September 2017 Meeting Minutes
DRBC September 6, 2017 Meeting minutes
Members Present: Chuck, Dan, Brian, Kris, Andy
Meeting called to order by Chuck at 6:03
Treasurer’s Report: $5389.48
Bike Racks: Not Installed Yet. Paul would appreciate not having them in his shop. Andy will pick them up and store them in the DRBC locker if there is room, otherwise in his garage
Raffle License: We now have one. It is good for quite a few raffles and for a while (it does not expire at the end of the year).Kris moved that we keep the license active so if we/someone needs it we can respond quickly. Seconded by Dan. All voted in favor.
Bike Fest: No meeting yet but Dan reports it went well. The open streets went well for a first year – there was a significant amount of activity. DRBC had a mini bike rodeo which was used by 12-20 kids in my estimation. One idea for next year is have a temporary protected bike lane (perhaps down King / 17th)
Dan says there is a 99% chance Bike Fest will move to Riverside Park next year. This opens up some trail riding opportunities. Also, it may become more of an outdoor fest with boating on the La Crosse River.
If anyone wants to create a ride (recumbent, tandem, or sandwich, whatever) just set a date and time and Bike Fest will take care of the promotion.
The subject of increased trail rides brought up the idea of a “trail passport” type thing where people can indicate they rode on all the city trails (selfie?) and get entered in a raffle.
Another similar idea would be a park passport (take pictures of you in a park, get entered in a raffle)
We should consider these as DRBC projects for 2018
We then entered a lengthy discussion about maps for cyclists. The La Crosse one is old (2012) and has some info that isn’t important to cyclists. We talked about Eau Claire maps that were created by people actually riding routes. Creating a new map would be another possible DRBC project. If we can create the maps, there are people who will print / host them. On strong possibility is using Open Street Maps.
Dan moved we adjourn, Kris seconded. Meeting adjourned at 7:11
